New York Calling Comes Alive: Brian Berger & his cast of, well… almost a dozen have taken it to the stage on the following occasions. Thanks to all venues for having us & to everyone who came out, watched &/or listened to our schtick. All events were composed & conducted by Maestro Berger unless otherwise noted. He is available for weddings, bar mitzvahs, brisses: just ask, ya’ll!
September 24— WWRL 1600 AM, ten minute interview on the Richard Bey Show; Richard was in the studio, Berger & Berman in Marshall’s West End Avenue apartment.
September 26— Chelsea Barnes & Noble, Manhattan, with Luc Sante, Robert Sietsema & Marshall Berman.
October 4— Book Court, Brooklyn, with Marshall Berman & Tim McLoughlin.
October 13— Vox Pop, Brooklyn, with Tom Robbins & Neil deMause, moderator. October 19— Bluestockings, Manhattan, with Margaret Morton, Tom Robbins & Robert Sietsema. Margaret did a terrific slide show which gave us… an idea. October 25— Spoonbill & Sugartown, Williamsburg, with Tim McLoughlin & Luc Sante. New York Calling contributors Phil Dray and Kate Schmitz were in the audience. November 1— NY1 Sam Roberts, New York Times Close Up: two minute interview with Marshall Berman, which murked televisions throughout the city on November 3 & 4. November 1- Baychester Bronx Barnes & Noble, Bronx with CJ Sullivan CANCELLED
November 3— Everything Goes Book Cafe, Staten Island, with Steve Maluk & slide shows by Steve & Berger both. The mighty Walking Is Transportation was there!
November 6— Gotham Center For New York City History, Manhattan, with John Strausbaugh, Tom Robbins, Joseph Anastasio, Marshall Berman, hosted by Mike Wallace. Brian Berger’s all-city slide show ran as a preview.
November 14— Lower East Side Tenement Museum, Manhattan, with Philip Dray, Len Levitt, Marshall Berman & H.R. Britton, moderator.
December 10— Bronxtalk with Gary Axelbank & Brian Berger in a Lehman College, the Bronx, sub-basement studio with C.J. Sullivan on the phone somewhere in Jersey. Scheduled to be broadcast New Year’s Eve!
January 31- Cooper Union, with Margaret Morton, Marshall Berman, Joseph Anastasio & Kevin Walsh. The photographs of Brian Berger were shown beforehand, although he was in a secret location on the Gulf Coast of Florida the night of the gig.
February 7- Museum of the City of New York, with Marshall Berman, John Strausbaugh, Philip Dray & Brian Berger. Moderating the evening’s discussion was Robert Christgau.
